Clocks
General Overhaul
For optimal running, we recommend that clocks are overhauled at least once every 7 years. This process includes dismantling the clock and cleaning it thoroughly, checking all components, repairing all existing faults including small damage caused by the everyday running of the mechanism, reassembly and then time-testing. This is a detailed and involved process which ensures the clock is in the best possible condition.
Clean and Re-Oil
Clean and re-oil is recommended every one to two years. Constantly running a clock causes wear and tear on the moving components and contact surfaces of the mechanism. To combat this and prevent damage, oil is added during a service to all points under pressure. Over time and under pressure the oil can dry up or become contaminated with metal particles, dust and impurities which can wear away at the components and cause damage. Cleaning and re-oiling the clock prevents too much wear from occuring and reduces the chance of damage, as well as making it possible to spot if there are any obvious faults with the clock.
Dial Restoration
Over time, brass and bronze darkens as it is exposed to air. Lacquer degrades with age and cleaning, becoming streaky and flaking off. Restoration strips off the lacquer and brings the dial back to bright, bare metal. It is then cleaned and polished if necessary, re-inked or waxed and silvered, before finally being lacquered. The finished result is a dial as bright as new.
